Re: Paper's Game
Lickity starts wiping down another counter, before a realization hits him. This was his closest friend's birthday, and here he was wiping down counters and sweeping up dust while said friend is just sitting in another room. Sure, Chance is good company, but that doesn't mean it's okay for him to neglect Pine!Paper Shadow wrote:"Hopefully. I would love it if the rest of the family could come up. They never do, but that doesn't mean I don't hope it will happen."
He telekinesises the towel over to the closet and closes it as he trots into the office, saying with a slow smile, "Office'll still be in unopenable shape for a few days; I think we can spare time for a few games. What're we playing, Mao? No, not enough of us for that I suppose. Go Dig?"

- Go Dig is supposed to be an analog for Go Fish, given that pones are vegetarian (to my knowledge), and wouldn't fish for any reason I can understand.

"Wait, why?"Copper Rose wrote:"Here, give me some of those and we'll get it done faster. Besides, if I'm right, I think that Needles, Chance and Lickity are going to be a bit late." Starsong takes some of the decorations from Winter Fur, taking advantage of her flight to put them up.
"I dunno how many ponies are gonna come. I just told as many ponies as I could and asked them to pass the message." Winter Fur opens up a box of party whistles as she talks. "As for Pine Needles, he's brown, green mane, and very friendly. He'll immediately know you're not from here, so he'll find you."telebiscuit wrote:I grab a few as well, levitating them around the room. "How many ponies are we expecting here? Oh, and..." I cough nervously, "Uh, which one is the birthday colt?"

"You got any card games you'd want to play Lickity?" asks Pine Needles...

"Well, like I said, I enjoy a good game of Mao, but we're shy a few ponies for it to really work. E.R.S. is fun too, and we could play that with the three of us. What would you suggest, Chance? You're the one with the cards, after all."

Re: Paper's Game
"How about Idiot?" Chance asks. And when she realizes neither of the two know the rules of the game she gives the following explanation.
- Spoiler:
Note that this is just the variant of Idiot I know, there are many others.
You may require an additional deck of cards depending on how many players you have. 4 is sorta the in-between 1 or 2 decks point.
If playing with multiple decks you shuffle them together into one large deck.
The dealer puts three cards in front of each player face down. Then puts three face up cards atop of each of the face down cards. Then deals seven cards to each player.
Before play begins, all players may exchange cards in their hands with the three face up cards in front of them. Then the dealer asks if anyone has any 3's. If anyone does that player plays first. If multiple people do the one with the most goes first. If a tie the closest to the dealer in counter-clockwise position goes first. If nobody has a 3 the dealer asks for 4's and so on going upwards and following the previous rules as per 3's. Play then moves clockwise from the first player.
Players play any number of the same type of card (3's, 8's, queen's, etc.) onto the stack (which starts empty) and then draw a single card from deck unless the deck is emptied of cards. If you play a card lower than the value of the card on the top of the stack you pick up the stack and place it into your hand and the new stack is blank. This is called eating the stack. If four of the same type of card (3's, 8's, queen's, etc.) are place upon the stack, the entire stack is removed from the game and the new stack is blank.
When a player has no cards in their hand at the start of their turn they play one their choice of the face up cards in front of them. When a player has no cards in their hand at the start of their turn and no face cards in front of them they play one their choice of the face down cards in front of them. If a player ends their turn with no cards in their hand and no cards in front of them, they win. The round may end their or continue until there is only one player left.
Certain cards have special rules.
2's ignore the value of the card on top of the stack and reset the stack's value to blank.
Jacks may be played on any card and copy the value of that card.
If a 7 is on the top of the stack, the value system is reversed. You eat the stack if you play a higher value card and not if you play a card of equal or lower value than a 7.
Queens are higher value than 10's.
Kings are higher value than Queens.
Aces are the highest value card.

"Sounds interesting!" Lickity pulls over a pillow to sit on while they play.

"Oh, well. I think its more an issue of me dancing for the right colt." I say nonchalantly, placing the remaining decorations.
