Home planet
Name: ?, ?th planet of the ? system
Length of day (in earth hours): ?
Length of solar year: ? days (? earth days) (long?)
Length of seasonal year: ? days (? earth days) (could really be anything, almost certainly not the same length as solar year) (note that until a race on the planet discovers astronomy, this will be what they consider the year)
Description: An ice covered ring of metal with a molten core, lots of crystals, underground lake, "hole" covered in a lens-like ice formation. No axial tilt. Rings (waiting on a description I understand).
Stars
One large yellow star and a small red dwarf in a binary orbit
Yellow star name: ?
Red dwarf name: ?
Other planets & stellar bodies of note

Does our little bacteria use nitrogen?

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
Well, as far as I can guess it means we're in a slightly cooler and thus less populated part of the pool, So if we want to go somewhere safer we could go to a even cooler part of the pool, but in warmer waters there would be more food.
EDIT: Oh and also there would probably be more chance to find a mate in warmer waters. But I'd suggest we evolve first before going to find a mate.

And remember, Just because we have a tiny brain doesn't mean we can't be smart. By the way, Are we a single celled organism or a multiple celled one?

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
Mate? Tiny brain? Neither of these things currently apply. You reproduce by splitting (or budding I guess, take you pick of single celled organism reproductive methods, though I always favored splitting because it's more cinematically interesting). As for brains, you have no brains. Not even some progenitor to an insect brain as of yet. (There are actually a few things you need before you even can evolve one, like the most rudimentary of nervous systems for one.)
Whether or not you use liquid nitrogen and water or just water as a solvent (and how much) and at least an initial guiding direction for your temperature preferences is actually what that second choice is about right now. (I looked at some stuff about possible alternate forms of life and decided carbon based life was still the least headache inducing, but I also noted that there was a possibility for lifeforms to use liquid nitrogen as a solvent instead of water. So I kind of went the half way and figured since this planet has lots of water and is cold, your creature might you both in some measure. I guess the most interesting result of this is that a lot of things on this planet are going to be able to deal with extreme cold temperatures as some of them might use liquid nitrogen as their sole solvent (and more of them might just use a good amount of it). I didn't want to end up forcing your species into an options locked position though, so I made the call that your species would have the option to use either or both.)
Population as far as you know is.... well... yeah, feel free to guess whatever you like. I'm certainly not giving you an answer about things of that sort when you have no way to actually know them.

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
Right. Then we've got two options to make us stronger in a way, Either mitosis, which would give us a second little guy to do stuff with, or we find a way to mutate in order to be different. Unless of course we have a way to self-manipulate our DNA. And yes, I did mean the rock too.
EDIT: I just noticed I'm an idiot and didn't notice that you actually did say what was in the rock. Derp!
EDIT AGAIN: And actually our creature would have a basic sense of touch, otherwise it wouldn't know that the rock or that ice you mentioned (Which I'm assuming bumped into him or something) is there.

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
I actually have no idea if single celled organisms really know when they touch things. All I know is that clearly they are capable of getting the energy to procreate. Either way, you guys know if it's touching something. (Unless some other aspect of the environment conceals this information from you but... not too many things impair your sense of touch.)

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
Oh and by the way, I've realized the way we would evolve. To boil it down to it's most basic elements, we need to kill and eat another single-celled organism, or just the corpse of one anyways. We need to splice the genes of another organism with us, and due to the compound of DNA (Genes are big bundles of DNA), we would be able to make stuff even if the thing we eat doesn't have what we want to form.

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
Uh.... well that wasn't the way I planned to go with this. For whatever reason (look I'm not a sciency science scientist!) you have whatever is needed for evolutions aside from well... time and energy and certain other requirements (makes no sense for you to adapt to be good at eating something you've never eaten before and such).

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
Ah, okay. It's just since we had really no leads I was going to go with the science way, Because at least as far as I know of that seems the most plausible explanation for single-celled organism evolution.

Did the one with the spike seem capable of moving faster than wiggling?

Re: Spore Style Game OOC
To clarify, What I mean is that I think we should get flagella or a jet as well, I don't really see why that would need clarification but since you asked then okay.

That's good. You should have ideas in mind. I just hope everyone else will too and that there will occasionally be some disagreement as to what to do.

I think that's what Paper meant, but it didn't matter since inputs like that don't count. If you don't offer your own opinion, I'm largely going to ignore you.

Wait... Actually, aren't we pretty much blobs at this point? If so then doesn't that mean we could just get an exoskeleton in a bowl shape and we would mold into the shape?
