It was a day that started just like any other: you woke up, went through your morning routine. But you soon noticed that something wasn't quite right. The clouds were pink and raining chocolate, the ground was a checkerboard as far as the eye could see, and everything seemed to be changing with no rhyme or reason. In the center of all the chaos is a tall being seemingly made out of parts from a number of animals and having the time of its life. You don't know it yet, but this will soon be the cause of what is easily in the top five for "The strangest day(s) of your life."

It spots you and laughs, turning in your direction and raising a paw. With a snap of its fingers in your direction everything goes...plaid? and you could swear you taste a mix of soda and...feet? You're not sure how you know what that tastes like...

I'm going to start up a new game and am looking for players. You and the rest of the party are a group of friends from Ponyville on the day Discord escapes. Spotted by the god of chaos you are trapped inside a book for his amusement. Only by filling up the book with stories will you be released. The rules laid down by the Lord of Chaos seem simple enough.

1. “You must accomplish a goal to my satisfaction in order to complete the story.”
2. “You have twenty four hours to come up with and write a story.”
3. “You won’t escape even if you die.”

Each story fills up a single page, and with each new page everything changes, including the genre and setting! A Slice of Life game where the party goes through a number of scenarios or “worlds”. What goal the party chooses to accomplish is up to you with each one. It can be as simple as getting a date to as complex as starting a revolution, and anything in between, but you only have 24 hours in each world before Discord moves things along. Some worlds may seem downright normal, others can be wildly different, still others might transform the party somehow.

Don’t pick any combat builds, and build your characters in terms of a simple Slice of Life in Ponyville. Unless the world is one where combat is key, you’re generally going to want to avoid combat. And even in those cases the setting itself will handle special combat abilities, such as turning you into a master swordsman or giving you laser beams or blaster rifles as appropriate. Combat itself will be handled by using the environment, or your abilities creatively and with simple rolls.

Some of these worlds will be downright deadly! In the event of a character dying, they’ll be dead for the remainder of THAT WORLD, but will be BACK at the beginning of the next one. In the event of a TPK, obviously we go directly to the next day.

You mentioned we're all friends. Do we actually have to be friends with each other or can we be complete strangers or what?

What races are available to us? (Though I personally am doing an Earth Pony simply because there was a character I made long ago that I still want to play.)

So I assume we're using Utilities and Racials and not the new system that I've never bothered to look at?

I also have some uh.... request/questions about mechanics I guess. Mostly based on the way I did things in Mertropolis.

So as I think most people here are aware, I find the default stat/skill setup restrictive and came up with my own method for handing how skills are set up. Which involves still having 4 stats, but being able to assign the skills as you like.... somewhat. Basically you pick two for stats 1-3 and one for stat 4 and the GM picks where the remaining 4 stats go. (So you can pick some things you want to be good at or bad at but the GM at least is involved to prevent you from being really good at three super strong skills or such.)

Another thing I did in Mertropolis was to have the Element/Virtue mechanic be any Utility which used a Magic Point. (Since some Elements are a little less good than others and I know I at least find my Element pointless if I have another MP using Utility I actually plan to use.)

Another thing I did in Mertropolis was to change the default MP usage to a re-roll instead of +10. Now, in this game that might not really be a necessary change though, so whatever. It does still happen to make Generosity more interesting though.

Are we using Talent Specialization? If so, how many points are we starting with?

Are we allowed to take the Virtues the prevent us from having Magic Points?

Edit: Like in other games Streetwise doubles for Survival right? (As in wilderness survival, handling animals, etc.)

Not necessarily close friends, but you know each other at least vaguely by name and can stand to be in the same room and maybe talk.

All three basic pony-types obviously and Donkeys. Griffon, Hippogriff, Minotaur, and Zebra only if you describe why you've chosen to settle down in ponyville and give some basic information of where you were before. Changeling is also possible under the same conditions with the additional condition that you're keeping what you are a secret unless you really need to reveal what you are. No baby dragon unless you're tied to another PC who isn't basically a child with the same conditions as every other race. Any other races will be approved or not on an individual basis.

correct. racials and utilities.

I'm willing to do stats that way if others are okay with it. but you may want to give an example for others who aren't as familiar with how mertropolis was set up.

Likewise, I'm open to using elements/virtues and magic points that way. I'll go with that assuming there aren't complaints.

As for the talent specialization. sure.

And lastly: No. No "No magic point" anythings.

Oh my gods I have a character that I never got to use that's perfect for this. I'll have to update his sheet and remove the combat build and what-not, but meet Theseus, the Minotaur Gym teacher. (No, you won't get an answer for why I made a Minotaur Gym teacher originally, it's funnier this way.)

Greasy Slick.  Did a complete 180 from my initial concept.  Went from being a super salespony to a cart repairpony who's badly out of his league.

Uh..... Cardbo. We're not using the Abilities version of the system. And there are some other mechanical changes that were noted in this thread.

Edit: Also, just wondering how Twitchy Tail's 1/Session would work out. Though I do love the concept. DB might want to change the usage to some X/day or something that works better for play by post format.

So you aren't going to take advantage of being able to freely allocate your skills however you'd like? (If not, you forgot to bump Endurance to 9.)

Also, maybe I'm missing it but I don't see an Element (by which I mean a Utility that uses a Magic Point in the spot where Elements go).

So, I've been thinking of some things related to this game that I wanted to share with you all.

The first related to combat. Just want to make sure you understand that you aren't all helpless. You can certainly fight to protect yourselves if you need to. And don't necessarily have to be the panicking helpless villager if you don't want to be. What I was going for is more like a zombie apocalypse type thing. You probably weren't something like a US Marine, but regardless of what you were before you can or learn how to take care of yourself with your talents at hand...or hoof as the case may be...


The other little announcement is I've been considering, and am currently leaning strongly towards, removing the one day limit and making each world last as long as it needs to be. I feel it'd be a lot less limiting for everybody.

I'd still like your thoughts on that one though.
